OUR SHEET METAL BENDING
WORKING CAPABILITIES
Our Robofacturing and Manufacturing Partners have an extensive range of multi axis CNC bending machines which enables us to bend complex parts up to 6 metres accurately and consistently.
The high-tech capabilities offered by our partners free the designer from the traditional limitations of sheet metal bending. To assist in component design, our Robofacturing and Manufacturing partners have an advanced 3D CAD system to develop complex folded components and to model multiple-part assemblies. CNC programs are generated quickly and are stored electronically for future use, minimizing set up times if the part needs to be manufactured again.
The machinery is highly accurate when it comes to positioning and repetition, and has a wide array of capabilities, including hemming and seaming.
The minimum bending radius depends on the plasticity and thickness of the material. Generally, we recommend the largest possible bending radius to avoid cracking on the outer surface. ROBOFACTURING3D offers a minimum bending radius as small as 1 mm, although as a general rule we recommend that the minimum inner radius be equal to the thickness of the metal sheet.
TOLERANCES
SIMPLE SURFACE BEND
When designing parts with some type of bend with a standard bend radius, sheet metal tolerances are required to open.
For simple bent parts, ROBOFACTURING3D can offer a ±0.25mm tolerance for dimensions across a single bend.
The bend radius itself is constrained to a ±1.0°. We require a .dxf or .dwg file and a 2D technical drawing in order to create the bending feature.
MULTIPLE SURFACE BEND
For dimensions measured over multiple bends, ROBOFACTURING3D can offer a ±0.8mm.
We require a .dxf or .dwg file and a 2D technical drawing in order to create the bending feature.

ADVANTAJES
While welding is inevitable in many cases and bending cannot substitute it everywhere, we recommend choosing Metal Bending services whenever possible. The advantages of metal folding are:
AESTHETICS
Although in engineering functionality comes first, design follows closely behind. The lack of weldments guarantees a nice visual for your project.
COATING
A smooth surface is a great canvas for coating procedures, leaving a better result than the welding process.
PRECISION
Welding needs more manual labour. Manual labour, in turn, leaves more room for mistakes. Automatic bending systems provide accurate results.
REPEATABILITY
As it is an automatic process with minimal manual intervention, Sheet Metal Bending guarantees precise components when it comes to positioning and repetition, reducing errors as the machine determines the operations.
SHEET METAL BENDING METHODS
A variety of bending methods exist to do the job. Although most of them are suitable for the average job, each has some specific use-cases and needs different press brake tooling. We produce custom parts offering magnetic and hydraulic bending of sheet metal components. The sheet metal parts are processed to create an accurate radio, U-Shape or V-Shape along others through a straight axis in sheet metal materials, producing high-precision solids.
V-BENDING
The most widely spread folding method where a punch presses the sheet metal onto a die. Air bending, bottom bending and coining are the three types of bending used by our Robofacturing and Manufacturing Partners, where air bending is the most common of them. There, the sheet is not pressed onto the die but rather some way towards it until the desired angle is achieved.
ROLL BENDING
A bending method that uses rolls instead of punches and dies. The rollers rotate freely around three parallel axes, which are arranged with a uniform horizontal spacing. Two outer rollers, generally immobile, hold the lower part of the sheet metal while the inner roller, whose position is adjustable, presses the upper part of it. Great for producing parts with large radii or conical sheet metal details.
U-BENDING
Quite similar in terms of using a punch and die. Instead of a V-shape, it uses a U-shape. Thus, it’s main use is to produce U-channels.
ROTARY BENDING
Another bending technique to produce angular bends where the upper roll rotates freely with the final cut shape and a corresponding lower roll. The big advantage over other methods is the lack of bending marks (usually left by the V-shaped die) on the part.
QUALITY REPORTS
The performance of our Robofacturing and Manufacturing Partners is continuously monitored to ensure that all orders are completed in accordance with ROBOFACTURING3D Manufacturing Standards Manual.
We offer four (4) different inspection options. All CNC machined parts will receive a standard inspection report included in the part price and lead time. All inspection options are described below.
STANDARD INSPECTION REPORT
DETAILED INSPECTION REPORT
WITH DIMENSIONAL REPORT
Our Quality Control (QC) will verify the quantity, part material, features, and surface finish. Quality Control (QC) will verify up to 20 dimensions they deem critical. Documentation will not be shipped with your parts.
100% of all dimensions including both actual dimensions and allowable tolerance (subject to the applicable 100 maximums). Technical drawing required in PDF format.

CERTIFICATES
STANDARD MATERIAL CERTIFICATION
CERTIFICATE OF CONFORMITY (CofC)
Every order includes our Standard Material Certification, but this will not be shipped with your parts. Our Quality Control (QC) will verify the part’s material chemical and physical and mechanical properties are in compliance with the specified standards.
Order will include our Certificate of Conformity (CofC) report if it is required from our customer. A competent authority will certify that the supplied part meets the required specifications.
